Help/Instructions to use the Message Board

1. Having brough up the first page of the message board:

    Posts: total number of posts for a given Topic
    Pages: the total number of subjects
    Last Post: the date/time of last post message board
    Last Poster: the last post to the message board
    Tree View: Alternate way to see the subjects on the message board.
                      Click on Tree View and then click on the + for the Topic
                      and all the subjects will be listed. You can choose one
                      and click on it to go to that subject.
    Search: There are two locations of the Search button: top right corner
                 of the page and on the horizontal bar below the list of subjects.
                 The Search page is explained below.
    Subject: The name of a topic for discussion.
    Thread: All the responses to the subject.

2. To see all the subjects (threads) that are being discussed, click
    on the name of your Topic to bring you into the message board.

3. The message board screen with the title of your Topic at the top,
    shows you the list of subjects.
        ..To see the messages for a subject, click the subject title.
        ..To return to the Hatteras Jack home page, click
          Hatteras Jack - Home in the left corner of the top horizontal bar.
        ..To return to the list of subjects from the thread page, click
          your Topic name in the top horizontal bar on the left next to
          Hatteras Jack - Home.
        ..To Start New Subject, click on Start New Subject on the bar
          under the list of subjects.
        ..Click any Subject title to see the list of messages for that subject.

4. To see the messages about a subject, click the subject. The name
    of the subject will be at the top of the page.

5. To return to the list of Subjects at anytime, click your Topic name
    on the top horizontal bar.

6. To move forward or backward on the message board without
    going back to the whole list, click Previous or Next on the far right
    of the top horizontal bar.

7. To add a message to a subject, go to the bottom of the page and
    fill in the bottom box labeled Add Your Message Here and your
    name. If you wish to receive private e-mail, fill in your e-mail
    address.

    Click Preview/Post Message to automatically preview your message.
    It may take a few seconds for your Preview/Post Message to appear.
    It will appear as if it is already on the thread at the top of the page.
    You can add/delete in the original box or you can click Post Message
    in the bar below your new message. If you make changes to the
    original message, repeat the process of Previewing again.

8. You can e-mail Posters privately by clicking on their name IF it
    is underlined.

9. Search: When you click Search, the Search Board will appear. You
    may search by keyword and/or date.
        ..Search by keyword: Click this box and type your keyword in
          the Search for: box. Then you can narrow the search by using
          the following options. Be sure to check the drop down boxes for
          each as the default option may not narrow your search as much
          as another option could.
                a) Keyword Options:
                b) Match method:
                c) Match case:
                d) Look in:
        ..Search by date
                
a) Time frame
                b) Users
        ..Perform search: Click the white Perform Search button. The
          results that appear will show you the thread and the messages
          underlined. Click on any of the underlined messages and you
          will see the whole thread.
        ..Search tips:
                ..If you get results showing a + in front of your class name,
                  click on the + to see a list of all the sources.
                ..If searching "Text of messages" does not find what you
                  need, try searching for "Subject line" and vice versa.

10. To post a new subject, return to the list of subjects by clicking the
      name of your Topic in the top left horizontal bar. When the list
      appears, check Start a New Subject on the bar just below the last
      subject in the list.
