Piers There are soon to be seven public fishing piers between Kitty Hawk and Cape Hatteras. Most are open from April through November, and some are open 24 hours a day during the summer and early fall (hours vary, so call before you go). An all day fishing pass generally costs $10. Season passes are available. All piers sell bait and have tackle shops where you can rent poles (about $10 a day). The oldest and well known fishing pier on the Outer Banks, Jennette's Fishing Pier, has been purchased and refurbished by the North Carolina Aquarium Society since being severely damaged in 2003 from Hurricane Isabel. It is scheduled to re-open to the public in the spring of 2011.
